Types of Plastic Surgery

In the past decade plastic surgery has become a household word. Every year more and more people are choosing to have some form of plastic surgery done. The most common type of plastic surgery is liposuction. The terms lipoplasty, liposculpture, and liposuction all mean the same thing and are basically the same procedure. Lipo is best suited for those that are close to their ideal body weight that are looking for a reduction of fat in those hard to loose places like the hips, abdomen, or thighs. Those who have had a stable weight for at least 6 months do much better with this procedure.

There are two types of liposuction – tumescent and ultrasonic. The tumescent liposuction is the standard procedure which fills the fat with a tumescent fluid [saline] making the fat stiff so that it can be suctioning out with long rods. Very tiny incisions are used to insert the rods. Ultrasonic liposuction is similar to tumescent. The initial procedure is the same but then ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy the fat before it is sucked out with rods.
